Preventing Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy Through Ayurveda

Definition: Benign prostatic hypertrophy is swelling of Prostate gland. The prostate is a walnut sized gland that is only present in men. It is located just below the bladder and top of the penis. This gland surrounds the urethra (the tube through which urine flows from the bladder and out through the penis).

It is a very astonishing fact to know that the condition BPH has been explained in ayurveda long back. The anatomical position of prostate gland, symptoms of BPH and its remedies are explained by Acharya Sushruta.

The anatomical position of prostate gland is described in ayurvedic classics as follows…
In Yogaratnakara it has been described as —

Which means ” Below umbilicus Nitridex Male Enhancement  (NAABHI), there is a hard gland which is little bit bulged and changes its place some times and some times stays stationary. This gland is like “Ashteela” (A small stone used to sharpen swords). This gland when affected by vitiated vata causes a disease called “vataashteela” (or benign prostate hypertrophy)

Sushruta explains the structure, anatomical position of prostate gland and symptoms of BPH as follows.

Which means – the place between rectum and bladder is occupied by vitiated vata it affects the easy flow of urine, stools and semen by enlarging the gland ” Ashteela”.

The prostate gland enlarges in all men as age advances. BPH is very common and affects one third of men who are over 50. A person suffering from BPH does not have the increased risk of prostate cancer.
Functions of Prostate gland.

One of the main functions of the prostate is to produce a fluid, which contribute to the liquid portion of semen and this liquid allows the sperm to move freely.

The gland is divided into peripheral, transitional and central zone. The overgrowth takes place in central zone which leads to BPH.
Effects of BPH Prostate gland surrounds urethra. When prostate gland enlarges, it constricts the urethra reducing the urine flow. The emptying of bladder becomes very difficult because of this.
Causes of BPH According to present medical concepts the actual cause of prostate enlargement is unknown.
But the causes of BPH are very well explained In ayurveda which is based on tridosha theory. The causes of vataashteela or BPH are explained as follows.

Causes for vataashteela according to dosha theory:
vataashteela is caused by vitiated vayu and apaana vayu ( a subcategory of Vayu)

(APAANA VAYU is located in two testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groins, anus and colon. Functions of apana vaayu are Ejaculation of semen, voiding of urine, stools, elimination of menstrual blood and expulsion of fetus.)

The vitiation of vayu and apaana vayu is caused by

1. Controlling the urge of urinatio

2. Controlling the urge of defecation

3. Over indulgence in sex

4. Consuming dry, very cold and less quantity of food

5. Old age

6. General weakness

7. Indigestion

8. Physical and mental overexertion

Symptoms of BPH

o Difficulty in starting to pass urine ( hesitancy ),

o A weak stream of urine,

o Dribbling after urinating

o The need to strain to pass urine,

o Incomplete emptying of bladder.

o Difficulty to control the urination urge.

o Having to get up several times in the night to pass urine,

o Feeling a burning sensation when passing urine.

o Passing urine mixed with blood (indication of infection)

Symptoms of vatashteela are described as follows.

The vitiated ashteela gland when enlarged is called as “vatashteela”. This enlarged gland causes

1. Obstruction to easy flow of urine.

2. Obstruction to Easy passage of stools and gas

3. Bloating of Stomach.

4. Pain in bladder.

When the above mentioned symptoms are noticed then one should seek proper medical advice.

A digital rectal examination will be performed to examine the size of prostate by inserting a finger into the rectum. A distended bladder can be felt per abdomen. Ultra sound examination will be done to determine the amount of urine left in the bladder after urination. Routine urine test will be done to rule out infections.

A prostate gland tissue may be collected using a needle to check for cancerous cells.

Ayurveda tips for SELF-CARE

If symptoms are mild, the following methods can be tried for relief:

1. Vata gets vitiated when natural urges are controlled. Hence do not control the natural urge of passing urine. Urinate when you first get the urge.

2. Go to the bathroom even if you do not have urge.

3. Alcohol, tobacco, coffee increase vata and vitiate it. Hence avoid alcohol, tobacco and coffee, especially after dinner.

4. Vata gets normalized and vitiation comes down when body is warm. This can be accomplished with regular exercises and keeping the body warm.

5. Mental exertion leads to increase of vata. Avoid mental exertion at work place and at home.

6. Avoid foods which cause constipation as constipation causes vitiation of vata.

Other general tips

1. Avoid drinking fluids from two hours before going to bed.

2. Avoid cold and cough medications that contain decongestants or antihistamines. These medications can increase BPH symptoms.

3. Avoid drinking excess amount of liquids. Distribute the intake of fluids throughout day.

BPH can be prevented by –

1. Consuming low fat diet

2. Including lots of fiber in diet ( fruits and vegetables which are rich in fiber).

3. Visiting your family physician as soon as you notice any symptoms while passing urine.

Apart from these many effective herbal remedies have been mentioned in Sushruta samhita and Yogaratnakara.

Dr. Savitha Suri has been an Ayurvedic Practitioner since 1989. After getting a graduation degree in ayurveda (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) in 1988 from University of Mysore, India, she started practising ayurveda. Her articles about ayurveda have been published in news papers and websites. She is a regular health columnist to a regional news paper.

Shape Up! 4-Alternative Weight Loss Solutions

I am embarrassed to admit how many different commercial weight loss programs I’ve tried. I don’t know about you, but after a while I grow tired of talking heads touting empty promises. None of them helped me look the way I think I should and most of them left me agonizing over eating the same foods over and over.

What’s a body to do?

In this article I’ve outline a few different ideas that I’ve found to really work. Ideas I continue to come back to again and again. Whether you need to lose a few pounds or are looking for a healthy lifestyle change, these 4 solutions will help get you started.

Solution #1: Use Creative Visualization

Creative visualization a great way to bring about lifestyle change. “Seeing” yourself thinner is one of the most successful ways to decrease your body size and improve body image. Guided imagery works by training your mind to stimulate changes within your body.

This can be accomplished using a few of my favorite tools:

Affirmations: Using affirmations will train your mind by stating or affirming your intentions. It will retrain your thinking toward positive thoughts.

When I use affirmations, I like to use positive statements such as these:

To increase their effectiveness, I write these messages to myself on an index card or piece of paper and carry them with me. I review them several times throughout the day.

Tapes: If you are an auditory person, you will love the guided imagery and weight loss tapes available from Health Journeys  Garcinia Slim Xtra . Their positive learning tapes will walk you through the thought process of building a stronger, leaner body.

Books: One of my favorite positive affirmation books is Love Your Body! By Louise L. Hay. Inside this book, Louise has created affirmations for you. If you read through them each day you are sure to reap the rewards of loving your body.

Solution #2 Try An Herbal Wrap

If you need to lose a few extra pounds, you may want to try an herbal wrap. Herbal wraps help the body lose water and inches. You can get a wrap from your favorite salon however, they tend to be expensive. It’s just as easy to give yourself a spa treatment at home. Herbal wrap products are everywhere. If you’d like to get a wrap but prefer the privacy of your own home, check out:

  • Weight loss
  • Water loss
  • Decreased inches
  • Smoothness of Tissue

Solution #3 Stop When You Are Full

In her book Appetites, Geneen Roth gives us a simple outline to manage portion control. Her two major mantras are: take time to eat and stop when you are full. These are both shape-shifting ideas. To some people, including myself, food is a friend. Therefore the tendency to overeat stems out of emotion; food provides comfort and security. Others are in a hurry. Food and the need to eat are just obstacles that get in the way.

In effort to break free from these unhealthy behaviors, ask yourself several questions:

Am I enjoying what I am eating? Do I eat standing up or on the run? Do I continue to eat even after I know I am full?

Next, begin to carve out time to eat and enjoy food with friends or family. Or to take time to enjoy a nourishing meal even if you are alone. Eat to the point of being full, then stop. Most of the time, weight loss can be easily stimulated through portion control.

Solution #4 Keep a Food Journal

In addition to the aforementioned, it may be wise for you to keep a food journal. By tracking what you eat every day, you hold yourself accountable for everything you place in your mouth. It’s simple to start. Record everything you eat for a week and document your weight each week.

At the end of the week take inventory of yourself. Have you gained weight? Lost? Remained the same? If you are gaining weight, simply cut back on your refined sugars (sweets) and heavy carbs like white rice or white potatoes. For these, substitute brown rice or sweet potatoes instead. Track your habits for a second week.

When you’ve reached the point in your eating program where your weight remains the same, you will need only consume a few less calories (or burn a few extra during exercise) each week to lose weight. Keep in mind: in order to lose weight, your body needs to burn more calories than it consumes. First, find your melting point, then adjust your portion control and exercise program accordingly.

In Conclusion: With just a few adjustments and an enjoyment of food – recognizing its beauty for nourishing your body – you can shift your focus from frustration to enjoyment. Give these alternatives to weight loss a try. Your health and your waist line will thank you for it.

No Fuss Weight-Loss

To lose weight and keep it off you need an easy to follow
no fuss plan. You need a plan that is simple and sensible.
You need a plan that you can use everyday to get slim and

You need a plan that builds on your success day-by-day.
A plan that keeps you inspired and motivated by seeing
results–fast! If you don’t see and feel results fast it’s
far to easy to be tempted by the next fast food drive
through or the next vending machine. Far to easy.

You need a plan that works for you, a plan that blends in
to your lifestyle. A plan that you can live with. Forever.
That’s the real secret to permanent weight-loss.

Most people go on train wreck diets. They follow the
latest fads. They start the diet, lose some weight, then go
off of it and gain all the weight back. Sometimes even
more. That’s called yo-yo- dieting–up and down and back
up. You don’t want to do that, it’s bad for your health.

Golden Farms Forskolin weight loss requires changes in your lifestyle.
Changes in your behaviors. You can’t expect to lose
weight by doing the same things like overeating and not

You can’t expect to lose weight and keep it off by ignoring
good nutrition and eating foods that are bad for you. Junk
food leads to a junked body. Diabetes, heart disease, high
blood pressure, cancer, stroke and arthritis are just a few of
the health problems associated with obesity.

When I say “junk food” I don’t mean just fast food, donuts,
or candy, I mean all the foods that don’t seem so bad but
are full of sugar, starches and fats. Foods like fruit juice are
full of sugar. You’re better off to eat the fruit and drink
some water. Foods like pasta, rice and french fries are full
of empty calories and cause an insulin response that puts
your body into fat storage mode.

Permanent weight loss requires you to be informed about
what foods have good nutritional value and what ones don’t.
You don’t need to take a college nutrition course but you
do need to know some basic “nutrition 101” principles.

To be successful with your weight loss and management
you need to know the difference between proteins, fats and
carbohydrates. You need to know how much protein you
should be eating, how much carbohydrates and what kinds
of fats.

You need to know the effects of sugar on your body.
Most mothers think they’re doing a good thing by
giving their children apple juice instead of soda.

Being confused and uniformed leads to weight problems.
Weight problems for yourself and maybe even your family.
Young children have no control over the foods they eat.
Food is either fed to them or placed before them when
They’re old enough to eat. Sure they can refuse to eat,
but it’s usually not the cookies and cakes but the carrots
and broccoli.

Children can be taught early on to eat healthy or to eat
unhealthy. If parents recognized this fact and were aware
of the habits they were passing on through modeling
lifestyle behaviors the obesity epidemic could probably
be reversed in a few years. And I’m sure the rates of
drinking and smoking in young people would go down
as well.

I can hear some well meaning mothers or grandparents
saying, “well they have to have some treats some of the
times”. Maybe on an occasional birthday. But when
the children are older and as people become more
educated about the causes of obesity there’s going to be
some serious finger pointing.

Remember when the Marlboro Man was cool? Remember
when everyone smoked, even pregnant women? Things
have changed haven’t they? The social stigma attached to
smoking will be dwarfed by the stigma that is becoming
attached to obesity. And the difference between smoking
and obesity is you can’t hide the fact that you’re fat.

What about portion control? We’ve become a super-sized
nation because of super-sized portions. When it comes to
restaurants we rate them good or bad according to how
much food is on the plate.

At home, people are too busy these days to weigh, measure
and count food units. You need simple ways to eyeball
serving sizes for portion control.

A simple, easy to follow, no fuss plan is the answer to
your weight problem. Why complicate things and cause
yourself more stress?

Fat Burners: The Shocking Truth

Fat Burners refer to the hundreds of products on the market today that can be purchased over the counter. Their purpose is to somehow burn off the fat by speeding up metabolism, or blocking fat in foods, or other methods.

The companies that sell these products employ savvy at marketing techniques to hook you, with bold print ads and sometimes less than believable before and after pictures.

>>>>Are these products safe?

Fat burners are not regulated by the FDA so companies can put whatever herb, vitamin, or mineral in them as long as the substance Advanced Turmeric isn’t illegal. I don’t know of any long term studies on any one of the hundreds of fat burners on the market.

>>>>Do they work?

Many of these products have been shown to be effective for weight loss, though they may have negative side effects. Be aware these products can cause side effects such as rapid pulse, increased blood pressure, constipation, nervousness, sleeplessness, and lack of appetite.

>>>>Are they healthy to you and your weight loss goals?

The jury is still out on the health benefits of any fat burner. These products should be looked at as temporary fixes to weight loss. Most of them cause a decrease in appetite, which can lead you into a situation of not consuming enough calories on a daily basis.

If you aren’t eating enough daily calories, your body responds by slowing your metabolism, storing fat, and using muscle for metabolism. This can result in you losing weight, but muscle weight instead of fat. The goal in any weight loss program should be to keep the muscle, lose the fat.

Fat burners might help you lose some weight in the short term, but once you stop taking them you run a high probability of gaining the weight back, especially if you aren’t following a healthy eating plan and moderate exercise program.

Eradicate Erectile Dysfunction and Have a Healthy Sex Life

One of the signature symptoms of Andropause is erectile dysfunction (ED). An embarrassing, nerve-wrecking experience, ED is when a male cannot perform for his female partner. In layman’s terms, it is the inability to have an erect penis during sexual activity.

It is the primary issue amongst men in regards to their sex lives. Let’s become acquainted with how a full erection works and why this condition exists. Men under the influence of Andropause have erectile dysfunction no matter what’s on their mind. Thinking of a nude Playboy centerfold model would likely induce pleasant and sexual thoughts into a man.

Sexual thoughts, however detailed or brief they may be, are produced in the brain. After all, the brain is responsible for thinking. These sexual thoughts directly spark nerve signals down through the spinal cord and into the muscles of the penis. Nitridex These nerves send a flow of blood running through the arteries in the penis while it is in a relaxed state, building pressure.

A man without Andropause can have a constant, steady flow of blood flowing to his penis arteries in a good amount. The more blood that flows down there, the harder and longer your erection will be! When sexual thoughts creep out of your mind and you’re focused on another activity, your penis returns to its relaxed state. We can guess Andropause sufferers are going to have to do something else rather than think about that nude Playboy model to obtain an erection!

Erectile dysfunction can attribute to psychological causes. Psychological causes can include having fear of our female partners (especially when it is a specific person with whom we feel shy with), depression, lack of self esteem, and cluelessness as to what to do with certain parts of the female anatomy. Our bodies are exposed “to the air” and we often times feel ashamed of what we look like to our partners. Mind thoughts and emotions that are pessimistic in nature not only affect your mental state, but the performance of your penis as well.

As with other medical conditions, the effects of impotence can be magnified if we do not follow a proper health regimen. The top dog in promoting erectile dysfunction is the use of drugs, particularly the cancer sticks you find over the counter – we all know which one that is. Cigarettes reduce the amount of blood flow to the penis. Undergoing surgery and prescription drugs also contribute to the problem, like tranquilizers, medications for seizures, beta blockers, and diuretics. Even a simple over the counter drug like NyQuil Cold & Sinus (a decongestant) can reduce blood flow to the penis, at least temporarily.

We’ve probably all seen those commercials before. You know, the one with Rafael Palmeiro (major league baseball player in his late 30’s) promoting the use of a special pill known throughout the globe as Viagra. Viagra is a staple of American culture – the subject of endless tonight show monologue jokes and a popular conversation topic anywhere. At a cursory glance, Viagra may seem like a sideshow attraction, but its been proven to be one of the most effective drugs you can take for erectile dysfunction.

Using Viagra requires a doctors prescription, but it is so readily available you can get away without one. Before considering going on this pill, maintain a healthy lifestyle and build up those testosterone levels naturally. Make a visit to your doctor to discuss a proper dosage and see if Viagra is right for you. Remember, there are many erectile dysfunction pills out there – the goal is to see which best suits your condition. Don’t fret over this condition – with the plethora of solutions and medications combating this problem, you’ll be fine in no time.

Brief History of CBD and Hemp Oil

Cannabidiol (CBD) has been enjoying increasing amounts of attention as people learn more about its incredible possibilities as a supplement. With so many articles and research studies being written about CBD, you might think that this consumable is a recent discovery. It is true that many of the CBD extraction and packaging methods use cutting-edge technologies but the use of CBD in its hemp oil form goes back farther than most people realize.

In the 2010’s the public began to see what a profound effect CBD oil could have treating a variety of life threatening aliments, especially in children. A prime example of this is a young family from Missoula Montana, using CBD oil to treat their 20 month old son, Cash Hyde, who had been diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. Hyde’s condition was worsening and his tumor inoperable. After exhausting every treatment option, including 30 rounds of intensive radiation, Ketamine, Methadone and Morphine treatments, the Hyde family had hit their limit. Nothing had worked. In an effort to give his small child some relief, his father did what was thought to be “crazy”at the time, and gave him a highly concentrated cannabis extract, not knowing what else to do. HIghTech CBD After the first treatment, Hyde’s State IV brain tumor had shrunk. Although it was considered unorthodox, Mike Hyde was applauded by medical professionals and even spoke with the press in hopes of shedding the light on how CBD oil is literally a lifesaver. Cash Hyde lived for another two and a half years, passing away after the State of Montana made a change in legislation that impaired the family from easily accessing the cannabis oil their son needed.

Perhaps the most prolific case of CBD oil and it’s success is the 2013 story that achieved national press. Charolette Figi is a 3 year old Colorado girl who suffered 300 grand mal seizures every week. Like the Hyde family, her parents thought they had tried everything, including a heavy regime of pharmaceutical drugs and painful procedures that still did not ease her condition. Her parents had watched a documentary of one of the first medical marijuana dispensaries in California centered around testing their strains of CBD and other cannaboid content. The California center testing was one of the first public assertions that cannabis was safe to ingest and use for a variety of medical purposes. CBD rich oil was able to treat 99% of the young girls seizures, and CNN aired a 2013 special on marijuana and it medicinal effects.

These are just a few specific instances that show how effective CBD oil can be, laying the groundwork for CBD oil being recognized as a justifiable medicine for a variety of ailments. As a result, many states are passing legislation rapidly allowing CBD oil to be used in numerous clinical studies as treatment plans. Research continues to back up it legitimacy and programs are being funded globally to continue the studies.

Men and Sperm Health

Men – What You Do On A Daily Basis Affects Your Sperm Maturation Process

While a woman is born with all the eggs she’ll ever have, men produce sperm on a continual basis. Therefore, what a man does on a daily basis can affect the sperm maturation process.

Smoking, drinking, drugs, stress, poor nutrition and lack of exercise all can contribute to poor sperm quality. And, it was recently discovered, a man’s sperm quality begins to decline around the age of 25.

There are five main factors that contribute to overall sperm quality. They include sperm motility, speed, count, concentration and morphology (shape and size).

A weakness in any of these areas can affect the chances of conception.

Sperm motility is a term that describes sperm’s ability to move in an active fashion: in other words, are the sperm “strong swimmers?” In healthy sperm, typically more than 50% are active with over 25% moving forcefully in one direction. Motility enables the sperm to travel through the cervical canal, into the uterus and the fallopian tubes and, finally, to penetrate the egg.

The forward movement of Nitridex sperm called progressive motility, forward progression or rapid linear progression. There are also several different ways to classify forward movement.

According to the World Health Organization (1999), in a healthy male, greater than 25% of sperm will exhibit progressive motility. It is thought that these are the sperm with the best chance of successfully fertilizing an egg.

Rapid linear progression showed a greater than 60 % improvement after four months of treatment with acupuncture, herbal medicine and supplements.

Sperm Count

Sperm count refers to the number of sperm in the fluid that is ejaculated (semen). There are over 40 million sperm in a normal ejaculate. A total count below 40 million may indicate decreased fertility.

With the Berkley Center’s unique protocol of acupuncture, herbal medicine and supplements, count increased more than 14 % after four months of treatment.

Concentration is a measure of the number of sperm cells in a milliliter of semen. Normal concentration is at least 20 million sperm cells per milliliter of semen.

With the Berkley Center’s unique protocol combining acupuncture, herbal medicine and the appropriate supplements, concentration improved after four months of treatment.

Morphology (shape and size)

A healthy sperm cell will have a shape similar to a tadpole. The sperm’s oval head contains the genetic material, the center provides energy and the tail propels the sperm forward.

Using the strict criteria put forth by the World Health Organization (1999), studies of Assisted Reproductive Technology programs show lower pregnancy rates with less than 15% normal forms. Furthermore, experts believe that abnormally shaped sperm cannot fertilize an egg.

The term, subfertility, refers to couples that are unable to achieve conception after a year of unprotected intercourse (or 6 months if the woman is over age 35). It is different from infertility. A subfertile couple merely has lower odds of conceiving during any given month than fertile couples.

Statistics at a glance

  • Human reproduction is surprisingly inefficient and quite complex — the likelihood of pregnancy within any given month is believed to be only 25 percent among fertile couples.
  • 1 out of 12 couples have subfertility.
  • Male-related factors account for 40 percent of subfertility. Female-related factors account for another 40 percent and a combination of male- and female-related factors account for about 20 percent.
  • About 90% of all subfertility can be traced to specific causes that can be treated.

Typical causes of male subfertility

  • Sperm production problems
  • Blockages in the sperm’s delivery system
  • Injuries to the testicles
  • Low or high hormone production
  • Anatomical problems
  • Varicocele (varicose veins around the testicle)
  • Past illnesses/infections/various diseases
  • Certain medications

Sperm quality

Sperm quality is a contributing factor for 40 percent of couples experiencing infertility. There are five main factors that contribute to sperm quality:

  • Motility: The ability to move in an active fashion. In healthy sperm, typically more than 50% are active with over 25% moving forcefully in one direction. Motility is what enables a sperm to travel up the cervical canal, into the uterus and the fallopian tubes and, finally, penetrate the egg.
  • Speed: Progressive motility. In a healthy male, greater than 25% of sperm will exhibit progressive motility. It is thought that these are the sperm with the best chance of successfully fertilizing an egg.
  • Count: The number of sperm in the fluid that is ejaculated (semen). There are over 40 million sperm in a normal ejaculate. A total count below 40 million may indicate decreased fertility.
  • Concentration: A measure of the number of sperm cells in a milliliter of semen. Normal concentration is at least 20 million sperm cells per milliliter of semen.
  • Morphology: The shape and size of the sperm. A healthy sperm cell will have a shape similar to a tadpole. The sperm’s oval head contains the genetic material, the center provides energy and the tail propels the sperm forward.

Using the strict criteria put forth by the World Health Organization (1999), studies show lower pregnancy rates with less than 15% normal forms. Furthermore, experts believe that abnormally shaped sperm cannot fertilize an egg.

Motility, speed and morphology appear to be the most important factors to assess the fertilizing capability of sperm. Despite a low sperm count, many men with high-quality (viable and highly mobile) sperm may still be fertile.

By combining acupuncture, herbal medicine and supplements we have been able to effectively enhance and improve the quality of sperm. Not only do the count, morphology and motility improve but sperm fragmentation is often successfully treated.

Another excellent application of the Berkley Center’s protocol is varicocelectomy recovery. One of the causes of lack of improvement in sperm quality and count after a varicocelectomy is due to a lack of blood flow to the testicles. The proper application of acupuncture, herbal medicine and supplements has been shown to successfully enhance blood flow to the testicles and facilitate healing and significant improvement after varicocelectomy.

South Beach Diet Overview

Developed by Dr. Arthur Agatston, The South Beach Diet touts itself as teaching dieters to eat the right carbs and the right fats. The diet has three phases. In the first dieter’s banish their bad carb cravings and induce rapid weight loss. In the second phase, some types of carbs are reintroduced and weight loss is slower. The final phase is the “Diet for Life” phase. This is the maintenance diet and will be followed for the rest of the dieter’s life. If at any time the dieter begins to gain unwanted pounds, then he simply goes through the induction and pre-maintenance phases again.

The first phase emphasizes protein from high-quality meat sources with lots of fresh vegetables and salads with real olive oil dressing. Bread, rice, pastas, potatoes, baked goods, soy milk and cheese, yogurt, beets, carrots, corn and all fruit are forbidden in the 14-day induction phase. This includes all candy, cake, ice cream and sugar, plus meats that are cured in sugar or molasses.

The diet encourages three meals a day with a mid-morning and a mid-afternoon snack. There is also a daily meal plan. This plan includes strict Garcinia Slim Xtra portion control in the induction phase. An example of a daily snack is 20 peanuts. And 30 pistachios is another snack option.

Unlike Atkins, unlimited protein consumption is not advised or allowed on this diet. However, during the later phases of the diet some of the strict portion control does end and dieters are able to eat until satiated.

Some of the forbidden foods can be slowly reintroduced, sometimes in modified form in the second phase of the diet. The second phase lasts until the dieter’s goal weight is reached. However, white flour products, potatoes, corn, carrots, beets and sweet fruits like banana and pineapple are still forbidden.

After dieters reach their ideal weight, they proceed on to their Diet for Life or maintenance diet.

In this phase the forbidden foods are processed foods, white flour products, sweet fruits, and foods with a high glycemic index in general.

During the 14-day induction period, Dr. Agatston predicts a weight loss of between eight and 13 pounds, with belly fat being the first to go. In the second phase dieter should continue to lose 1-2 pounds each week as long as they do not go overboard with the carb reintroduction.

The 5 Keys To Finally Lose Fat Fast!

Losing fat in my opinion is not all that difficult. You need to possess 5 Strategies and apply all 5.

They are:

1. A Compelling Reason To Change

2. Proper Nutrition

3.Progressive Resistance Training

4. Moderate Aerobic Exercise

5 Strategies For Fat Loss

1. A Reason To Change:

To make a successful body transformation, you must first and most importantly have a desire to change. And that desire must be fueled with a reason to change. This reason cannot be any old reason. It has to be the most Compelling Reason you ever had in your entire life.

Without this reason you won’t be able to sustain your motivation to do the other four parts necessary to achieve a successful transformation. So what is your Compelling Reason to change? For some it is death of a loved one or wanting to live healthier so you can spend more time with loved ones.

For others it could be they are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Your doctor may be telling you to lose weight or go on blood pressure medication, Golden Farms Forskolin or, worst yet, die-your choice. For each one of us it is different. I do know this; you must have a Compelling Reason to change period.

2. Proper Nutrition:

This is where 99% of us screw up. The worst part is there is so much misinformation and hype out there, nobody really knows what proper nutrition or eating right really is. Most people think to lose weight they must stop eating altogether.

Thinking this way is totally wrong, since this will slow down our metabolisms. Precisely what we don’t want. Another way people think they’re eating right is having fruit & coffee for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and a bowl of pasta for dinner.

Nope, that’s not the answer either. So the question is what is proper nutrition? OK in a nutshell, my idea of proper nutrition is 4 to 5 portion controlled balanced meals about every 3 hours throughout the day.

3. Progressive Resistance Training :

SPECIAL NOTE FOR WOMEN Please, DO NOT be afraid of weight training. You WILL NOT turn into the Hulk I promise. The objective or goal is to build lean muscle on our bodies. For women out there I love to call it lean SEXY muscle, because when you replace the fat on your bodies with lean sexy muscle look out!

You will turn your body into a lean & toned sexy fat burning machine! So weight training will be the same for you as it is for the men. Ok, enough said on that. I have to include the guys now. Building lean muscle will boost metabolism and that is what we want to achieve.

In fact, you’ll even start burning more calories even while you rest. I’ll let you in on a little known secret: you need lean muscle because that is where fat is burned! The more lean muscle you have the more fat you burn. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish with weight training.

In order to build lean muscle we must get stronger every workout. Let me repeat that. In order to build lean muscle (lean sexy muscle for women) we must get stronger every workout. That’s what we call progressive striving to get just a little stronger each time.

4. Moderate Aerobic Exercise:

Moderate does not mean one hour and forty-five minutes, nor does it mean two hours. Moderate means anywhere between 18 to 25 minutes 3 times per week. That’s it! OK you can get up off the floor now. I know, I know, you’re probably saying this guy Bill has lost it! 18 to 25 minutes?!?!

Ok, OK wait a minute. Let me ask you a question. For those of you who are presently doing aerobic exercise for one hour or longer, are you happy with your results? If you said No try 18 to 25 minutes 3 times per week you’ll be amazed!

Aerobic exercise can be as simple as walking at a brisk pace, jumping rope, stationary bicycle, treadmill, stair stepper, etc. The bottom line is you have to find an aerobic exercise you enjoy, or you will end up not doing it on a consistent basis.

You must be consistent in following the strategies for:

* Proper Nutrition

* Progressive Resistance Training

* Moderate Aerobic Exercise

Consistency will result in successful Body Transformation!

If you take the time and put forth the effort, but don’t do it consistently, then your results will be minimal. You can’t expect to do all three strategies for one week then stop for a week then start for two more weeks then stop for another week.

I can’t stress this enough, you must be consistent on all the action strategies: Proper Nutrition, Progressive Resistance Training and Moderate Aerobic Exercise. Consistency is the glue that holds everything together.

Typical Workout

A Typical weeks workout (less than two total hours per week!)

Pick any 5 days.

Since I have a wife and Kids I like to have my weekends free.

So I break it down like this:

Monday: 18 minutes stationary bicycle

Tuesday: weight resistance training 15 minutes

Wednesday: 18 minutes stationary bicycle

Thursday: 18 minutes stair stepper

Friday: weight resistance training 15 minutes

Something like this is all you need to transform your body, of course you have to add in there Proper Nutrition!!!

I hope this helps a lot of you out there searching for answers.

Psychological Factors in Weight Management

To continue the educational series on your health and fitness lifestyle, this article is based on accredited college nutrition programs and literature based on proven science. My hope is to empower you to take responsibility for your nutrition plan. One does not have to become a fanatic and eat perfectly to be healthy!

How we think and feel about food is profoundly influenced by how food is used in our families as children. If food is used as entertainment a reward a bribe a punishment or stress relief, from sadness, anger, or other negative emotions, problems may ensue.

Often, people will eat when they are not hungry, only bored, sad, angry, upset, or lonely. When eating for these reasons, they usually eat foods high in fat, sugar, or both. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a meal, just be sure to get sufficient healthy food and limit your quantities of junk food.

People who eat for reasons other than hunger will sometimes feel guilty after they indulge. This will often lead to more overeating and more guilt. These people often become obsessed with food “cookie monster syndrome”. There are support groups and counseling for people who over-eat for emotional reasons.

The flip side of food obsession is anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Anorexia nervosa is a serious condition in which the person stops or Advanced Turmeric severely curtails their food intake to induce weight loss. Approximately ten percent of people who are anorexic die of their disease. People with this condition see themselves as being fat, even when extremely emaciated.

Bulimia is a condition where the patient eats food (sometimes gorging) and then vomits or takes laxatives or diuretics to avoid weight gain or induce weight loss. This can result in the loss of electrolytes and minerals essential for proper heart function and pH balance in the blood. Both these conditions are serious and require medical assistance.

Success in weight control comes by understanding the cause of your individual problem and then developing a program accordingly. Some people, who were unaware of what good nutrition consists of, only need to learn the facts about nutrition and exercise to apply what they have learned without difficulty.

Others have unconscious eating patterns such as eating while doing other activities and not paying attention to what or how much they are eating. By being aware of the problem and using techniques such as behavior modification techniques, can help the person with problems such as these.

People who have trouble changing eating habits or extreme obesity may have deep-seated emotional or psychiatric problems and may be using food to help alleviate the symptoms. Consuming large quantities of high-sugar or high-starch foods releases serotonin in the brain, which imparts a feeling of wellbeing. This can be an attempt to relieve undiagnosed clinical depression or anxiety.

Once you apply the principles of weight control for a while, it becomes part of your life style, like taking a shower or making the bed. You lose your taste for high-fat, high-sugar food and eat healthier food out of choice even when weight control isn’t an issue. A blended approach including education, healthy eating habits, and exercise, along with counseling if needed, will produce permanent fat loss and weight control. A step forward in your Fitness Lifestyle.
